TELEMEDICINE - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

December 13, 2019

In todays busy culture, it is more important now then ever to have accessible healthcare at your fingertips. Here is what you need to know about telemedicine:

What is it?
Telemedicine is a means of communicating and networking with healthcare professionals through telecommunication technologies, in order to provide patient care. This may include telephone, internet, audio/video conferencing, and online charting. Provincial and Federal guidelines mandate that this method of provision of health care services must meet the same standards as clinic based practise.

What is it used for?
One example of telemedicine is TeleHealth Ontario, where people can call a Registered Nurse 24/7 to ask for medical advice. It is common for some clinicians to use telemedicine software to monitor patients from their homes, or to connect with patients in isolated communities. At ATK Cosmetics, we use videoconferencing technologies for you to meet the Medical Director, Dr. Steve Radke. There, he will go over your treatment plan, consent form, health care questionnaire, and ask you if you have any concerns or questions about your treatment plan.

What you need to know:
This type of communication is handy when the health care professional isn't physically present, so they can still offer a variation of the same services, while adhering to the same standards of practice. Your nurse and physician must have security measures in place to ensure confidentiality of your Personal Health Information (PHI). You must be provided with enough time to ensure you have all the information you need to make informed health care decisions.
